# Decision Making
Use this skill for important, hard-to-reverse choices where a structured process beats gut instinct.
## 1. Classify the decision
- Reversible and low-stakes: decide fast, do not over-analyze.
- Irreversible or high-stakes: slow down and use the full process below.
## 2. Frame the real question
State the decision precisely and surface hidden assumptions:
- What exactly am I deciding?
- What problem is this solving, and is it the right problem?
- What are the actual options (avoid false binaries; generate a third option)?
## 3. Define criteria up front
List what matters and weight it before evaluating options, so you do not rationalize a favorite afterward. Separate must-haves from nice-to-haves.
## 4. Second-order thinking
Ask "and then what?" Trace consequences beyond the immediate effect:
