Create and edit Obsidian Bases (.base) files - YAML-defined views, filters, formulas, and summaries that turn notes into database-like table, card, list, and map views.

description: Create and edit Obsidian Bases (.base) files with views, filters, formulas, and summaries. Use when building database-like views of notes or when the user mentions Bases, table/card views, filters, or formulas in Obsidian.
---
Author `.base` files (valid YAML) that render notes as table, card, list, or map views inside Obsidian.
## Workflow
1. Create a `.base` file with valid YAML in the vault.
2. Set `filters` to select which notes appear - a single string, or a recursive object with exactly one `and`/`or`/`not` key, using operators like `==`, `!=`, `>`, `<` and helpers such as `file.hasTag(...)`, `file.inFolder(...)`.
3. Optionally add `formulas` (computed properties referenced as `formula.<name>`) and `summaries` (e.g. `values.mean().round(3)`).
4. Define one or more `views` with a `type` (table/cards/list/map), optional `groupBy` and `limit`, and an `order` list of properties to display (note props, `file.*` props, or `formula.*`).
5. Validate the YAML and confirm every referenced property/formula exists; watch quoting pitfalls (special chars, formula expressions). Open it in Obsidian to confirm it renders.
